HeyTea Black Tea Latte (Black Milk Tea): Price, Calories, Caffeine, and Ingredients

If you want the most classic drink HeyTea makes, this is it: black tea and milk, no fruit, no foam cap, no pearls. Many menu guides call it the Black Tea Latte. In HeyTea’s US ordering apps, the same style of drink is listed as Black Milk Tea, which HeyTea describes as its signature black milk tea, “silky and smooth.”

This guide explains the naming, what you will actually pay at US stores, how many calories a black tea with milk realistically carries, how much caffeine to expect, and how it compares with HeyTea’s other black tea and brown sugar drinks.

Black Tea Latte vs. Black Milk Tea: Same Drink, Two Names

This is the first thing that confuses people. Search for the HeyTea Black Tea Latte, and most guides (including our own HeyTea menu) show a drink of black tea and real dairy milk at about $6.49. Open HeyTea on Uber Eats or DoorDash in the US, though, and you will not find a “Black Tea Latte.” You will find Black Milk Tea instead.

Both names describe the same idea: HeyTea’s house black tea combined with milk, served without toppings. “Latte” is simply the café-style name for a tea with milk, and you will still see “Black Tea Latte” on menu guides for HeyTea in other countries. In the US apps right now, Black Milk Tea is the name to look for.

What we could not confirm is the $6.49 price that many guides repeat. None of HeyTea’s current US delivery listings we checked show the drink at that price. If you are ordering in the US, treat Black Milk Tea and its listed price as the current version.

What’s in the HeyTea Black Milk Tea

HeyTea keeps its own description short, so here is what can be stated with confidence:

  • Black tea, brewed from leaves. HeyTea calls it its signature black tea. It does not publicly name the origin or blend for this drink, so any site claiming a specific tea garden is guessing.
  • Milk. HeyTea lists the drink as containing milk products. Across its US menu, HeyTea uses real dairy milk and promotes it as free of artificial creamers.
  • Sweetener, adjustable. Sugar level is part of HeyTea’s standard customization, so you can order it sweeter or lighter.
  • Ice, if ordered iced.

There is no cheese cloud, no tapioca, and no fruit in the standard cup. If you want a foam topping, HeyTea sells its Original Cheese Cloud (real dairy, no artificial creamers) as a paid extra.

About the soy note

HeyTea’s DoorDash listing for Black Milk Tea says the product contains milk and soy, while its Uber Eats listings mention milk only. HeyTea has not explained the difference. If you avoid soy, ask the store before ordering rather than relying on either listing.

What Is Black Tea, and Why Does It Work With Milk?

Green, black, and oolong teas all come from the same plant, Camellia sinensis. Black tea is fully oxidized during processing, which gives it a darker color, a deeper malty flavor, and more grip on the tongue than green tea.

That strength is why black tea is the traditional base for milk tea. Milk softens its tannins and rounds out the flavor without washing it away. A delicate green tea would get lost under the same amount of milk.

HeyTea also sells drinks made with Yingde black tea, a named black tea from Yingde in Guangdong province, China. Yingde black tea was first produced on a commercial scale in 1959 and is known for a sweet aftertaste. Those Yingde drinks are listed separately from the standard Black Milk Tea (more on them below).

Black Milk Tea Price in the USA

HeyTea does not post a national price list, and prices vary by store and by ordering channel. Here is what HeyTea’s own store listings on Uber Eats showed in October 2026:

Location (Uber Eats listing)

Black Milk Tea price

Manhattan, New York

$8.49

San Francisco (Downtown Metreon)

$8.49

Glendale, California

$8.49

Bellevue, Washington

$7.99

A few things affect what you pay:

  • Delivery apps can cost more than the counter. In-store or in-app pickup prices may be lower than the delivery price above.
  • Fees stack up. Delivery fees, service fees and tips are added on top.
  • Upgrades cost extra. Adding cheese cloud, brown sugar bobo or other toppings raises the price.

Black Tea Calories: How Much Is in a Black Milk Tea?

HeyTea has not published official US nutrition information for this drink, so the 220, 230, and 320 calorie figures you see online are estimates. Rather than repeat one of them as fact, it helps to understand where the calories come from. There are only three sources:

Component

Calories (USDA reference values)

Brewed black tea

About 2 per 8 oz cup

Whole milk

About 149 per cup

Reduced-fat (2%) milk

About 122 per cup

Skim milk

About 83 per cup

Added sugar

About 4 per gram

Black tea calories are close to zero. Almost everything comes from the milk and the sugar.

Using those numbers, here is how a 16 to 17 oz milk tea with roughly one cup of whole milk would add up. This is an illustration, not HeyTea data, since HeyTea does not disclose its milk-to-tea ratio:

Sweetness

Added sugar (example)

Approximate total

No added sugar

0 g

About 150 calories

Light

15 g

About 210 calories

Medium

30 g

About 270 calories

Full

45 g

About 330 calories

That range explains why guides land anywhere from the low 200s to about 320. If you are watching calories, the sugar level is the setting that matters most. Our HeyTea nutrition menu compares other drinks.

Milk also brings protein. A cup of dairy milk contains about 8 grams, so a black tea with milk offers a little more staying power than a fruit tea.

Caffeine in HeyTea Black Milk Tea

All of the caffeine comes from the black tea. HeyTea does not publish a caffeine figure, so any number is an estimate.

The FDA puts an 8-ounce cup of black or green tea at about 30 to 50 mg of caffeine, and an 8-ounce cup of coffee at about 80 to 100 mg. In a milk tea, part of the cup is milk and ice, so you are drinking less brewed tea than the cup size suggests. If a regular cup holds roughly 8 to 10 ounces of brewed tea, a Black Milk Tea would land somewhere around 30 to 60 mg. Shops often brew tea stronger for milk drinks so the flavor comes through, which could push it higher.

Drink

Typical caffeine

8 oz brewed black tea (FDA reference)

30 to 50 mg

HeyTea Black Milk Tea (estimate)

About 30 to 60 mg

8 oz brewed coffee (FDA reference)

80 to 100 mg

For coffee lovers, that means a black tea latte gives a gentler lift than a coffee latte. The FDA cites 400 mg a day as an amount healthy adults can generally have without dangerous effects, and notes that it can take four to six hours for the body to clear half the caffeine you drink. A late-evening milk tea may still affect your sleep.

What It Tastes Like

Expect a malty, full-bodied tea with a creamy, smooth texture. Compared with HeyTea’s Jasmine Milk Tea, it is darker and less floral. Compared with a coffee latte, it is softer, with less bitterness and acidity.

Iced, it tastes cleaner and more refreshing. Hot, the tea’s roasted notes come through more and the drink feels richer. Some menu guides list a hot version of Black Milk Tea; availability varies by store, so check the app.

Black Sugar Milk Tea at HeyTea

“Black sugar milk tea” is a common name for brown sugar boba milk tea. In Taiwan, where the drink became famous, the dark, unrefined brown sugar used for the syrup is often called black sugar. The result is a milk drink with caramel-like syrup and chewy tapioca pearls.

HeyTea’s version of this style uses brown sugar bobo, HeyTea’s word for its tapioca pearls, which it describes as slow-cooked daily. Two points are worth knowing before you order:

  1. The Original is milk, not milk tea. HeyTea describes the Supreme Brown Sugar Bobo Milk (Original) as real dairy milk with slow-cooked brown sugar. No tea is listed, so if you want black tea in your black sugar drink, look for the milk tea version on your store’s menu.
  2. It is far sweeter than a plain black milk tea. Between the syrup and the pearls, a brown sugar bobo drink carries much more sugar than a Black Milk Tea at the same sweetness setting.

You can also add brown sugar bobo to a regular Black Milk Tea as a topping if your store offers it, which gives you a middle ground between the two.

How to Order a Black Milk Tea at HeyTea

  1. Find the right name. In US apps, look for “Black Milk Tea” under the Teamix/Tea section rather than “Black Tea Latte.”
  2. Pick your sweetness. Start lower than you think. Black tea has enough body that it does not need much sugar to taste balanced.
  3. Choose iced or hot. Iced is more refreshing; hot brings out the tea’s roasted flavor (where offered).
  4. Decide on toppings. Leave it plain for the classic version, or add brown sugar bobo or cheese cloud if you want texture or richness.
  5. Mention allergies. The drink contains milk, and one listing flags soy. Stores also handle coconut, pistachio and other allergens in other drinks.

Allergens and Dietary Notes

  • Dairy: Yes. This is a milk-based drink and is not suitable for a dairy-free or vegan diet as standard.
  • Soy: Listed on HeyTea’s DoorDash entry for Black Milk Tea, but not on its Uber Eats entries. Confirm in store.
  • Lactose: The drink contains regular dairy milk. HeyTea’s US listings for this drink do not mention a lactose-free option.
  • Cross-contact: HeyTea stores prepare drinks with cheese cloud, coconut, pistachio and other ingredients, so trace contact is possible.

Is the HeyTea Black Tea Latte Worth It?

It is worth it if you like traditional milk tea and want to see how HeyTea handles the basics with brewed leaf tea and real milk. It is a steadier daily pick than the cheese cloud or brown sugar drinks, with less sugar and fewer calories at the same sweetness level.

At $7.99 to $8.49 through delivery apps, though, it is not cheap for a drink with two main ingredients. If you mainly want something sweet and indulgent, the brown sugar bobo drinks deliver more. If you want a more distinctive black tea, the Yingde series is the step up.
